The artistic director of Sanremo Amadeus has made a statement that they are ready to cancel Sanremo 2021 and there is no plan B for that.
Previously this year it was confirmed that 71 (70+1) edition of Sanremo Music Festival will take place on March, 2-6 2021. However there are so many questions about its future as the pandemic of COVID-19 continues to exist.
Answering the question about upcoming festival yesterday artistic director said:
“We still don’t know what Sanremo 2021 will be like — however, we won’t have a Plan B, we would rather cancel the competition. The edition number 70+1 of the Sanremo Music Festival must be held under normal circumstances. We are ready to cancel it.”
However the preparations for the festival at this point are going on. This Tuesday the songs submission for the “Sanremo Giovani” which will determine six acts for the main show has been started. And Amadeus also added:
“Let’s think optimistically — and I’m saying that the Sanremo Music Festival will be the first large-scale event to be held after the Coronavirus.“
It was also announced that organisers will start to meet music labels on Monday (7 September), though they already have some proposals on the table. Sanremo Giovani will start the first shows in October, on Rai 1 under the title “Amasanremo”. It is expected to recieve somewhere around 500 applications.
On December, 17 the final of “Sanremo Giovani” will be held at the Sanremo Casino. The same day the “Big Performers” for the “Sanremo 2021” will be revealed.
